High Barn Holiday Cottages News & Offers
We have noticed that the purpose built owl nesting site within the eaves of The Owl House has recently been attracting attention from a barn owl, as there has been a sprinkling of pellets within the last week or so. Today, we have turned on the webcam to discover a barn owl roosting there for the first time since it was built. This is excellent news, as in January and February, barn owls start looking for a possible nesting site and we are very hopeful that this is a good indication that our 'owl house' will be chosen by a breeding pair. Visitors to all the cottages at High Barn will be able to view the owl(s) with their own 'Springwatch' webcams. After such a difficult winter last year, with almost 3 months of snow cover on the surrounding fields, many barn owls starved to death in this area. It's really encouraging news to know we have adult birds on the farm, who will hopefully be able to breed in a couple of months time. We'll keep you posted. |
