High Barn Holiday Cottages News & Offers
Along with the visitors at High Barn, we've been watching Barn Owl ' Mum' for quite a while, via the webcam, but she has tended to huddle at the back of the cavity where she has been out of range of the camera. That's been frustrating, because we haven't been able to fully see what's has been going on. This evening, one of our visitors told us that he had seen chicks on his T.V. screen, so I raced up to High Barn and yes, there are three fluffy chicks, looking quite lively when Dad flies in with some food. He came back twice in the 15 minutes I was watching, so it looks as if they won't go hungry. There's just a chance the brood may be even larger - we'll see more clearly as time goes on and they grow and spread out more into the vision of the camera. It's so pleasing to know they like the owl box and also , so interesting to watch their behaviour in the nest. Already, I have been able to spot the strongest of the brood - very dominant and larger than the rest. I'm not quite sure how we'll manage changeover days in the next few weeks - we'll all be glued to the screens. Good job there's one in every room. I'll try to keep the information flowing. In case you are unaware, we have a twitter for high barn @highbarncottage and if I'm feeling very conscientious, I try to tweet each day - well, that's the general idea, but work keeps getting in the way. |
